My new blog goal, vanity searches

It’s been six months since I achieved my blog goal of showing up first on Google when searching for “Jeremiah Grossman”. After than I that I figured it was all downhill - that is until someone mentioned to me that my blog shows up on the first search results page for just “Jeremiah”. OMG I thought, according to Google I’m now one of the most popular “Jeremiah’s” in the world! How cool is that!?! Mom will be proud. :)

As it stands I am #6, but there are only three different Jeremiah’s ranking higher. Of course the most popular among them is the prophet Jeremiah. That guy is going to be tough to beat. :) But hey I need a new goal and I’m up from the challenge. All it takes is links these days. So in honor of my new found mission, I’ve updated my blog tag line to:

“A page about me to show up first on Google when searching for Jeremiah”

A page about me to show up first on Google and it FINALLY has!

these kind of SEO goals rocks! have you ever tried the SEO for Firefox extension? It's pretty cool!

Of course, Jeremiah Owyang is #2 after the prophet so double whammy on you. Owyang is a rockstar in social media.

@gustavo, yes I've tried that extension before and I liked it a lot, but haven't used it so much lately as I'm not really in the SEO game. Ranking for my personal name is just sorta fun. Right now I don't need to keep THAT close track of it to need a Firefox add-on. :)

@aaron, hmm... two famous Jeremiah's only miles apart. Wow. We'll see what happens though. A couple of weeks ago I was at #10, so I've been rising. :)

I'm sure you're gonna beat the prophet, not much news about him these days :) The amount of inbound links coming your way should definitely help you.

Jeremiah, based on your post I did a little "vanity googling" and discovered that (according to your theory) I am the most popular ITGuy in the world. My blog shows up as the first listing when googling for itguy.

You just have to convince Google that the prophet Jeremiah's search results are the result of blackhat SEOs. And, wham!, they'll remove that sucker's listings!

@mirko: AHAAH, yah. I didn't think of it that way. If only the prophets had the power of viral marketing. :)

@Andy: Schweet. Hmph, maybe we're all having our 15 minutes of fame in a new sort of way.

@dan: Google bombing a phrophet!? I'm not a religious sort of person, but I'm pretty sure I'd go to hell for that one. :)

Fun indeed!

But beat this one: I used to be (probably still is) in top 10 if googling for "log management" :-)

ARE you in top10 for 'web app sec'?

Ahh, the pissing contests :-)

P.S. Still, I envy Andy: search for ITGUY -> find him. How cool is that!?

for "web app sec" I show up #2, which is not bad I guess, but have no idea if anyone ever types that in. Yah, Andy definitely has the best one so far. :)

Hole cow - now I am all envy :) (about 'web app sec') :-)

Hi Jeremiah, I had a similar goal with my blog, it was show up on the first search results page for "Administrador de sistemas" (systems administrator in spanish). Only I had a really hard competitor, wikipedia.

like you with Jeremiah the prophet. :)

Congratulations and good luck in your new goal.
Regards.

Hmmm, so maybe I need a wikipedia page then. Eesh, how vein is that to make your own.

Well, if you search for "Alex" on Google, my website will show up on the first result page, too. :)
But I'm only #8. :-(
